Showers or bathtubs?
This is one of the logical consequences of the overall reduction in the size of our homes: bathtubs are gradually disappearing from our bathrooms, making way for showers, which are becoming increasingly sophisticated and luxurious. “In large homes that traditionally had several bathrooms with bathtubs, owners generally keep just one for relaxation and replace the others with a shower. In smaller homes, bathtubs are almost entirely gone — showers have taken their place,” notes renovation and construction company Ateliers Thomquin.
“Showers make up 80% of our requests. And this trend has continued steadily since 2005. We see it during our installations — bathroom and kitchen spaces are shrinking, so the equipment is adapted accordingly,” they add.
The environmental argument?
The environmental argument is also part of the equation. “Showers have evolved to offer more comfort while avoiding excessive water use. More and more major brands are offering eco-friendly models that allow for significant savings,” they explain.
Some showers, for example, are equipped with thermostatic faucets that allow users to get water at the desired temperature immediately, without wasting liters of cold water first. Showerheads that display real-time water usage and warn users in case of overconsumption have also appeared on the market.
